Case StudiesRoyal Armouries - Refurb.
Client: The Royal Armouries
Architect: AOC Architecture
Project: Refurbishment of museum main entrance.
RDF Involvement: This unique project succeeded in rejuvenating a tired atrium at the Royal Armouries. The first stage required RDF to remove all the plaster from the reinforced concrete structure. The revealed concrete was then ground and polished prior to receiving a sealing coat, before gold leaf and painted shield designs were added. It was then necessary for us to carefully remove structural elements before introducing a new cantilevered structural display platform, and a newly constructed bespoke welcome desk. The project was completed well within the time frame and budget agreed, thus avoiding unnecessary closure of the very popular museum. The erection of a pair of 22m high 45m long scaffolds, suitably placed behind hoardings, allowed access to the main circulation spaces of the museum and thus ensured that the building could remain open to its normal visitor flow. Overcoming the difficulties of the tight constraints of the site, limited access and the imperative need to prevent the accumulation of dust within the museum were the key factors in bringing about the success of the project.
Testimonial: "From design though to completion RDF offers everything we need for successful construction projects."
