New structure planned for abbey

College building frozen until 2011

The collapse of a multibillion-pound government rebuilding programme has meant that more than 160 colleges across England will have to wait until 2011 to find out if they can continue with building projects.

£35m anti-earthquake deal signed

A construction services group from Scotland has signed a £35 million contract to build 800 earthquake-proof properties in the devastated city of L’Aquila, in central Italy.

British engineering consultancy WS Atkins has revealed a 12% rise in profits, beating analyst expectations.
