p>Multi-national engineering firm Balfour Beatty has been selected as the preferred bidder for a £120 million academy project in West Sussex.
West Sussex County Council chose the company to revamp four academies at Littlehampton, Lancing, Midhurst Rother and Shoreham, with a mixture of refurbishing and new building.
Balfour Beatty chief executive Ian Tyler said the company was delighted to have won the contract and “looks forward to delivering West Sussex County Council’s vision”.
The preferred bidder selection used the £28 million Sir Robert Woodard Academy, Lancing, as a sample scheme. The academy will provide facilities for nearly 1,500 students and will be commenced in 2010.
Negotiations on contracts for the three other academies will also be started in 2010.
