Balfour Beatty and a Thomas Vale/Wates joint venture are to start construction next autumn on Stoke-on-Trent’s £250 million Building Schools for the Future programme.
The companies have been awarded contracts to build and refurbish secondary and special schools throughout the city, including five new-build academies.
It is in addition to the 25-year public-private partnership (PPP) contract awarded by the council in October 2000 for the re-development of 100 schools.
Says Balfour boss Ian Tyler: “We are delighted to have been selected by Stoke-on-Trent City Council as one of their partners to provide world-class teaching and learning environments for all pupils, teachers and communities.
“This contract will create training and employment opportunities for both Balfour Beatty in Stoke and our well-established local supply chain.”
