Bristol office named most eco-friendly

The Environment Agency’s news office in Deanery Road, Bristol, has been named by both the Building Research Establishment (BRE) and Breeam 2006 as the most eco-friendly office in the country.

The development earned the highest BRE score for its environmental credentials and also achieved a score of 85.06% under Breeam 2006 – the most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings worldwide.

Water used throughout the building is harvested from rain and it also has intelligent lighting system that will reduce use of electricity.

The office, which has a ground source heat pump to cut heating and cooling prices, minimised the affect of construction on environment using recycled materials and management of energy and resources on site.

The firm celebrated a topping out ceremony after completion of the building’s external structure on September 3.

Paul Leinster, EA chief executive said: “This achievement demonstrates how organisations can work with developers to build exceptional offices which meet their needs whilst reducing their impact on the environment.

“By relocating to a more efficient building the Environment Agency will save around 10% every year on operational and energy costs, an estimated £180,000 saving per year.”
