New waste facility plans submitted

A planning application for a new waste facility in Cheshire has been submitted to a number of North West councils.

Developers Viridor entered the application to Cheshire West and Chester and Cheshire East councils, after they requested alternative, sustainable waste treatment for the next 25 years.

The facility, planned for brownfield land in Lobstock Gralam, will handle between 200,000 and 230,000 of residual waste and include a mechanical and biological treatment facility.

The possibility of using incineration to process the waste has been ruled out.

Symon Gatsby, Viridor’s development manager, said: “We are confident that our plans put forward a robust and sustainable solution to help Cheshire maximise recycling and recovery and reduce the amount of waste it currently sends to landfill.”
