Leeds Sports Awards Nomination

Everyone at RDF are proud to announce that our very own Operations Director Graham Mattison has been nominated for a Leeds Sports Award.

Graham has worked at RDF for over a decade, with a positive upwards progression on his career path, which has seen him conquer a number of roles. This positive approach, that is instilled within RDF’s core, of training and giving back has led to Graham training the next generation of RDF employees to ‘take the reins’ from him as he moved up allowing others to also progress.

When Graham isn’t Directing the Operations of the company, he carries on the RDF tradition & ethos of being involved with the community and giving back by being heavily involved with the not for profit Alliance Boxing Club based in Cross Gates, Leeds.

The club is owned and run by professional boxer Sam Smith and former power lifter, now boxer Graham Mattison. Sam and Graham are hugely positive and inspiring influences, bringing a wealth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to the Cluband the local community as a whole.

Sam has been boxing for 9 years and has held multiple titles including WBF & WBU. Currently the British Masters Champion, she is the only British female in her division to be world ranked and Sam will be fighting at Elland Road next month on 02/03/18. Graham has boxed for about 4 years, prior to which he had great success in power lifting, being ranked second in the world at a professional level.

Both Graham and his professional partner Sam Smith have been nominated for the prestigious award; Coach-Participation. The full list of 2018 finalist have now been released and can be found on the Leeds Sports Award Website.

In a recent article in the Yorkshire Post; Sally Nickson, Head of Leeds Beckett University and Chair of Sport Leeds said: “The Leeds Sports Awards celebrate immense sporting talent across the city – from local athletes, clubs, coached and volunteers to Olympians, Paralympians and world champions.

It’s one of the highlights of the sporting Calendar in Leeds, and we’re looking forward to celebrating the success of everyone involved in sport in Leeds.”

The 2018 Leeds Sports Awards ceremony is set to be a star-studded event held at Leeds First Direct Arena on Thursday 1st March.

We’d like to wish both Graham and Sam the best of luck and an enjoyable evening celebrating their club’s success.
