Looking After Our Environment
As a construction business, it’s out job to help shape the environment we live in. It’s a responsibility we take seriously; taking active steps to minimise the impact of what we do, and embracing new technologies to deliver more energy efficient and sustainable solutions for our clients.
Some of our environmental initiatives
We leave no stone unturned in the search for recycling opportunities. Even the sawdust from our workshop is donated to a local farmer for use as animal bedding and as fertilizer. All RDF stationery is produced from recycled materials, and a shredding operation ensures that every scrap of paper is despatched for recycling. Used printer cartridges are also passed on to the RSPB, who are able to convert them into funds to aid their own worthy environmental programmes. Any waste timber is isolated into timber only skips, with a view to re-use or recycling wherever possible.
All new suppliers and products are thoroughly vetted to ensure compliance with established environmental policies. In line with this, timber is only purchased from sustainable sources. We are constantly on the look-out for innovative new products which can help us improve our environmental credentials.
Reducing our carbon footprint
Throughout every aspect of our operation we constantly seek to reduce our carbon footprint. Our fleet of vehicles has been carefully selected to ensure minimum emissions. All are fitted with trackers which enables us to manage journey distances and times, actively reducing emissions on a day-to-day basis. We have installed motion sensors in our offices and have recently changed all our lighting to energy efficient alternatives. Our environmentally responsible waste carriers provide weekly detailed information on the recycling of materials which we do not re-use directly ourselves. In addition to the on-going initiatives, we are currently investigating the installation of a biomass boiler which could be fuelled by the timber off-cuts from our workshop.
