Refurbishment of York Hotel following flooding
The Lowther Hotel sits on the banks of the River Ouse in the centre of York and suffered repeated closure due to flooding. RDF was appointed to carry out a full refurbishment and to install a new stairway from the ground to the 1st floor trading areas
Our team worked with Enterprise Inns, their tenant, the designers and insurance loss adjusters to agree a scheme which would make future clean ups following flooding quicker, easier and less costly. We suggested stripping out timber and plaster features and replacing them with finishes which could be easily cleaned and sanitised, including brick, stone, stainless steel and Corian. Works included the installation of a new flood protection system incorporating non-return valves, as well as an upgrade to the existing pumping system. At the same time as these works were carried out, the hotel has undergone refurbishment to the bars and eating areas, including the installation of a modern steel staircase, new bar and back bar, new fixed seating, new toilets and a new break through from the ground floor to the first in order to create a more open environment for customers.
Whilst we cannot guarantee that The Lowther Hotel won’t flood again in the future, we can say with confidence that any damage will be minimized and the clean up process much quicker, easier and less costly.
