Project Description

Redevelopment of Former College of Music and Dance to provide 6 cottages

Private Development Company

The Project

The Yorkshire College of Music & Dance had been occupied up to its sale in 2012.  In a very dilapidated state but still with a number of classic architectural features including additions made by famous Leeds Architect, George Corson, RDF was appointed to carry out a delicate redevelopment project to create 6 new cottages whilst retaining as many of the original features as possible

Our Solutions

Works included the demolition of a substantial extension and new build replacement in stone to match the existing building, full strip out and reconfiguration of the internal spaces to create 6 cottages of character, the removal of a large 1970’s  bay window to be replaced by new windows in keeping with the style of the original building, installation of new timber sliding sash windows throughout, all new services, electronic entrance and security systems, restoration of the Corson Arch and Corson mock Tudor entrance porch, reconfiguration of driveways and parking arrangements and full landscaping

RDF worked from the outset with local neighbouring residents to ensure a full understanding of the plan for the site which attracted a lot of interest due to its long and interesting history

The Outcome

Our client and subsequently the new owners of the 6 cottages (all of which were sold within a month of completion) are delighted with the development which has seen a severely dilapidated building with many fine architectural features conserved as 6 cottages of character
